Dandruff. Just the mere thought of the word makes most of us go ew. Noone wants it, but truth be told we all have it to some extent or another. Put simply, it’s the overproduction of dead skin cells (another ew) and it can be affected by everything from dietary choices and hair care products to the change of seasons and chronic stress.
Funnily enough, anti-dandruff shampoos can make it worse (no matter what the tv commercials may suggest) Lucky for us however, there is a natural and effective solution. Coconut oil, with it’s lauric and capric acid content, together with it’s strong antiviral, antimicrobial and antifungal properties make it a perfect base. Throw in some tea tree, geranium and lavender essential oils, whom all soothe and provide relief to a dry scalp and if you have one powerful natural antidote. Dandruff be gone!
There are quite a few essential oil that would be appropriate to add to this, however I wanted to keep this as simple as possible for you. If you don’t have Geranium, skip it – and simple use 6 drops each of the tea tree/lavender. If you have Manuka oil, consider using that over tea tree. Adding a drop of Frankincense will enhance the therapeutic qualities of the other oils in the mix (Think of Franky as a super charger!) Peppermint and Rosemary will also stimulate hair growth, if that’s what you’re after too.

PS. Do you have any natural solutions that you love? I’d love to hear about them! If you want to find out how else I use essential oils, check out my feature post – I’ll have what she’s having.
