Basil Hummus

I don’t know about you, but every time I write the word hummus – I think, is that how it’s really spelt? You sure it’s not an ‘o’ instead of the ‘u’??

Either way, it’s freaking amazeballs… especially when you jazz it up a little.

So I loooooove fresh herbs (who doesn’t?) but if you have a dog that likes to dig and a tendency to kill everything in your garden instead of grow – fresh herbs don’t last that long in our kitchen. Then there’s the fact that herbs aren’t always that great in quality (when store bought) and don’t last that long at all (even when you pay $8 a bunch!)

Enter the herbacious essential oil…

It’s no secret that I love my essential oils. What’s not to love? I can cook with them, make my own beauty products, perfumes, cleaning products and diffuse them at any given time to calm me down, get me focused or get me feeling a little sexy (Ylang Ylang anyone?)

Now because fresh basil can be a pain to get a hold of, this little bottle is a life saver. Want to make pesto but don’t have basil? Easy. Use baby spinach and a few drops of this. Want an authentic tasting pasta sauce? This is your friend.

  • 1 1/2 cups chickpeas
  • handful baby spinach leaves
  • 1/3 cup pine nuts or cashews
  • 1 small clove garlic
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • ½ – 1 tsp fine sea salt (to taste)
  • pinch ground black pepper
  • 2 drops doTERRA essential Basil oil*
  1. Whiz it all up in a food proccesor and you are done!
